Labor Day weekend isn’t the most dangerous holiday of the year for driving, but it’s still a very busy day—and what’s more, it’s one of the biggest alcohol holidays of the year. So if you’re going to be driving this weekend, keep these Labor Day driving safety tips in mind.
Labor Day weekend is a worse day for drunk driving than usual, for two reasons: there are way more people out on the road, and there are way more cops waiting to bust drunk drivers. Save yourself from an accident and a ticket and don’t drink and drive. You shouldn’t anyway, but especially don’t do it on Labor Day weekend. Call an Uber or have a friend come pick you up.
Always wear a seatbelt! Congested streets and highways lead to more accidents even without alcohol involved, and you have a much higher chance of getting seriously injured if you don’t wear one. And especially if you find yourself in a crowded area, put your cell phone somewhere out of reach and remove as many distractions as possible.
You should also give yourself plenty of extra time to get to your destination. Not only will this make it easier for you to get there on time, it’ll keep you from getting frustrated and speeding, which increases the risk of an accident. If it is time for an oil change, schedule a service appointment time now so that your car will continue to run smooth!
